Here’s another leadership lesson from my mother: Beginnings are always hard.
When you’re learning to play an instrument, you have a romantic idea of what that will be like. You, strumming by the campfire, beguiling and enslaving all within earshot with your talent.
Then romance and reality converge and you have to figure out how to make your fingers stretch in ways that God never intended them to.
This is true whether it’s learning a new language, starting a new job, moving to a new city, or joining a new church.
