ISFP: The Composer | Personality Description

ISFP

While everyone’s personality is different in its own way, it can be categorized into different groups using a personality test. And although there are several personality tools available online, one of the more popular ones utilized by people worldwide is the Myer’s Briggs test. This personality test divides personality into 16 categories –each with its own identifiable acronym and name. Today, we will dive deeper into the ISFP personality, also known as the composer.

Overview of the ISFP Personality Type

ISFP stands for introversion, sensing, feeling, and perceiving. As the composer, individuals with this personality are naturally creative, empathetic towards others, and cheerful. However, while they enjoy being around their close friends and family, they need time alone to regain energy as introverts. Furthermore, the ISFP is highly observant in their environment and prioritizes their emotions when making decisions rather than logic. Additionally, ISFPs thrive in environments with not a lot of structure. As a result, they enjoy having choices available to them to quickly adapt and act spontaneously when they want. Moreover, compared to other personality types, the ISFP is considered the fourth most common personality in society, with 9% of the global population identifying as such.

Strengths

Furthermore, like all personalities listed in the Myer’s Briggs test, the ISFP has many strengths. Let’s take a closer look at some of these strengths below.

Bold: The ISFP personality realizes that life is short –which is why they make the most out of every moment. They are bold in their actions and aren’t afraid to go after what they want.

Empathetic: These individuals are not afraid to go out of their way to help others. They are often highly sympathetic people and enjoy making connections. As a result, you can always count on ISFPs to come to your aid when you need them.

Principled: Moreover, ISFPs tend to stay true to who they are and what they believe in. As a result, you will not often find them standing down from values to please others.

Adaptable: These individuals are highly easygoing. Should something unexpected change in their environment, rather than become stressed, they embrace the circumstances in order to achieve.

Weaknesses

Moreover, while the ISFP has many personality strengths, they also have some weaknesses. Let’s take a closer look at some of these below.

Indecisive: Although ISFPs are creative and adaptable to changing circumstances, they have difficulty making decisions.

Avoidance: As these individuals are incredibly considerate and kind of others, they shy away from creating conflict with others. This often causes them to give into others and ignore their own feelings, which usually leaves them hurt.

Becomes Bored Easily: ISFPs are naturally curious about the world around them. As a result, they strive to find out more information and knowledge about topics they are passionate about. However, because of this, they can become easily bored and take on too much work at once to feel stimulated and excited.

Healthy vs. Unhealthy ISFP

Moreover, although many individuals with the ISFP personality live productive lifestyles, others have difficulties remaining balanced. As a result, they can suffer from unhealthy lifestyle choices and consequences. Let’s take a look at look at a healthy vs. unhealthy ISFP below.

Healthy

  • Warm and friendly when meeting others
  • Highly creative and whimsical
  • Do not feel the need to judge others and their perspectives
  • Highly intuitive in their environment, which allows them to connect with others on a deeper level
  • Able to make decisions confidently without second-guessing themselves

Unhealthy

  • Feel like they do not fit in with others
  • When they feel insecure or threatened, they become thrill-seeking and impulsive
  • Tend to leave projects unfinished because they get bored easily
  • Quickly becomes frustrated and emotional when things don’t go their way

ISFP

ISFP-A vs. ISFP-T

Furthermore, let’s compare what the ISFP-A vs. the ISFP-T is. The ISFP-A is also known as the Assertive Composer, while the ISFP-T is the Turbulent Composer. While the assertive personality is more likely to use their self-confidence to be spontaneous, the turbulent personality is more cautious before acting. Furthermore, turbulent ISFPs are more sensitive and easily overwhelmed than their assertive counterparts. In addition, assertive composers are less prone to needing praise from other people to feel good about themselves. In contrast, the turbulent composer is more likely to rely on others’ opinions to feel assured and comfortable with who they are authentic.

ISFP’s in Relationships

Moreover, when the ISFP personality is in a relationship, they are fun, unique, and highly understanding individuals who make an effort to form a deep connection with their partners. As a result, they are able to listen and empathize with their partner’s outlook and easily express their own emotions. Furthermore, they always consider how their actions will affect who they are with when they make decisions. However, sometimes the ISFP can struggle with confronting conflict in their relationships, which can cause more issues before the dispute is resolved. Nonetheless, ISFPs make great partners due to their kind hearts and spontaneousness.

Our Clients Love the Professional Leadership Institute

Your team will, too! Check out some reviews from our students.
The PLI program was invaluable to our network.
The range of topics delivered, the open dialogue, experience, and examples that PLI brought to each session were outstanding and provided a path for our Franchisees and Managers to look at leadership, coaching, and connecting with their teams in a new light. Many have implemented these strategies in their bakeries and have seen immediate results.

Highly recommend to help your team move forward
We have locations around BC and Alberta, so getting people on the same page can be very difficult... Until now. Our entire management team and location managers take the same great courses and then meet monthly online with our coach to apply it to our situation. People are engaged, the courses are excellent, we love our coach, and we are all learning together!

Our culture has taken major steps forward this year with Trevor’s help.  He is funny, relatable, and his tools are very very practical and have helped us focus and upgrade our teams throughout our retail network.
