ESTP: THE EXPLORER| PERSONALITY DESCRIPTION

ESTP

Our personalities are unique. They make us who we are and help us distinguish what we like in other people. However, while everyone’s personalities are different, they can also be categorized using various personality tests. And while there are several personalities tests available online, a popular one widely used is called the Myer’s Briggs test. This personality test divides the different personalities into 16 groups. In addition, every group has a set of characteristics and behavioral tendencies that can help you learn more about yourself. A unique acronym also identifies the 16 groups. Therefore, today, we will learn more about the ESTP personality, also known as the explorer.

Overview of the ESTP Personality Type

ESTP stands for extroversion, sensing, thinking, and perceiving. As the explorer, these individuals are energetic, bold, and confident. Moreover, because ESTPs are extroverts, they enjoy being around large groups of people rather than being stuck at home by themselves. Furthermore, explorers use logic rather than emotions to make decisions, and they prefer being honest with others. As a result, they can sometimes make others unhappy. In addition, the ESTP prefers to go with the flow of things instead of adhering to a schedule.

Strengths

Moreover, all personalities have strengths, including the ESTP type. Let’s take a closer look at some of these strengths below.

Detail-Oriented: ESTPs are highly detail-oriented and observational in their environment. This allows them to be intuitive and pick up on the dynamics of others with ease.

Resilient: Furthermore, because ESTPs are bold individuals, they have no difficulties going after what they want with a driven attitude geared towards success.

Personable: The ESTP personality type is someone who can make friends easily. Their outgoing nature allows them to light up the room and leave positive impressions wherever they go.

Persuasive: These individuals are naturally compelling individuals. As a result, in environments where they are meant to negotiate their achievements, they prevail with ease and confidence.

Weaknesses

Furthermore, while the ESTP personality type has many strengths, they also have weaknesses. Let’s take a look at some of these below.

Impatient: Because these individuals are inherently energetic, they are often quick on their feet and efficient at finding solutions. As a result, they quickly become impatient when others around them do not achieve solutions at the same pace.

Afraid of Commitment: The ESTP personality has difficulties confronting boredom and disagreements. Therefore, rather than sticking around to work through conflict, they will move on to the next situation or relationship immediately.

Difficulty Following Directions: ESTPs work better in environments where they can work at their own pace. Therefore, under authority, they often have problems following directions from others.

Healthy vs. Unhealthy ESTP

Moreover, while many ESTP individuals live balanced lifestyles, others have difficulties. This can lead to unfavorable consequences. Let’s take a more in-depth look at what a healthy vs. unhealthy ESTP looks like below.

Healthy

  • Easygoing, fun-loving individuals who get along with everyone
  • They think through their actions before making them
  • Self-aware of their strengths and weaknesses
  • Open to receiving constructive criticism from others without getting upset
  • Empathetic and insightful when interacting with others
  • Do not feel the need to be the center of attention

Unhealthy

  • When they feel insecure, they can become defensive and rude
  • They make rash decisions without thinking of the consequences
  • They can become increasingly aggressive and angry when they don’t get their way
  • Tend to use unhealthy channels to relieve stress and frustration rather than talk about their feelings
  • They are highly competitive towards others and feel they need to prove themselves to others

ESTP

ESTP-A vs. ESTP-T

Furthermore, let’s compare what the ESTP-A vs. the ESTP-T is. The ESTP-A is also known as the Assertive Explorer, while the ESTP-T is the Turbulent Explorer. While the assertive ESTP is confident in themselves and their abilities, the turbulent ESTP can allow their insecurities to hold them back from achieving their goals. Furthermore, the assertive personality is more likely to surround themselves with people less likely to give them constructive criticism. In contrast, their turbulent counterparts do not worry about what others think of them as much. In addition, assertive individuals use challenges as motivations, while turbulent individuals become easily stressed and intimidated. Lastly, assertive ESTPs have more control over their emotions, while turbulent ESTPs have difficulties recognizing and regulating them.

ESTP’s in Relationships

Moreover, when in a relationship, the ESTP personality is someone skilled at being loving, enthusiastic partners. They enjoy communicating their thoughts and emotions honestly and help motivate their partners to step out of their comfort zone to be more adventurous. However, when in a relationship, these individuals have trouble opening themselves up to trust and depend on their partner due to their fear of commitment. As a result, they can end relationships prematurely. Nonetheless, they are spirited individuals who bring spunk and fun whenever they can.

Our Clients Love the Professional Leadership Institute

Your team will, too! Check out some reviews from our students.
The PLI program was invaluable to our network.
The range of topics delivered, the open dialogue, experience, and examples that PLI brought to each session were outstanding and provided a path for our Franchisees and Managers to look at leadership, coaching, and connecting with their teams in a new light. Many have implemented these strategies in their bakeries and have seen immediate results.

Highly recommend to help your team move forward
We have locations around BC and Alberta, so getting people on the same page can be very difficult... Until now. Our entire management team and location managers take the same great courses and then meet monthly online with our coach to apply it to our situation. People are engaged, the courses are excellent, we love our coach, and we are all learning together!

Our culture has taken major steps forward this year
Our culture has taken major steps forward this year with Trevor’s help.  He is funny, relatable, and his tools are very very practical and have helped us focus and upgrade our teams throughout our retail network. Trevor recently spoke to an employee group, and one person remarked, “I could listen to Trevor all day.”   We would highly recommend Trevor.
