ENTP: The Debater | Personality Description

Every personality test created provides insight into human behavior—however, not all categorize personality in the same manner. For example, while The Enneagram test classifies personality into 9 categories, the Myer’s Briggs test uses 16 groupings. If you’ve been following along, you may have already seen some of our Myer’s Briggs personality descriptions. If not, make sure to check them out because today, we will be going over the ENTP personality type –also known as the debater.

Overview of the ENTP Personality Type

ENTP is the acronym used to describe the debater personality type. It refers to extroversion, i(N)tuition, thinking, and perceiving. Therefore, these individuals are described as curious, spontaneous, and expressive. As the debater, they enjoy having intellectual conversations with others and thinking about complex ideas. Thus, they are logical and often use their logic to make well-informed decisions. In addition, as inherent extroverts, they like being around others and have a great sense of intuition. Furthermore, the ENTP personality enjoys challenging new problems, finding the motivation to find solutions, and influencing people. Moreover, the ENTP is one of the rarer personality types within the global population at only 3%.

Strengths

Furthermore, like all personality types, the ENTP has many natural strengths. So, let’s take a look at some of these strengths down below:

Creative: Regardless of the issue at hand, these individuals confront problems through a creative lens to succeed. They have a natural ability to think outside the box and aren’t afraid to use past mistakes to formulate ground-breaking solutions. They are also unafraid to express themselves creatively through any artistic medium.

Adaptability: ENTP’s allow themselves to go with the flow. They have no trouble remaining flexible to changing circumstances in their work or personal life. Because they are logical and creative, they use challenges to their advantage to innovate.

Confident: Unlike other personalities, the ENTP is open to constructive feedback and criticism as they have a high self-assurance. They understand that opposition is a part of life. However, they ensure that the opposition does not throw them off their path to success.

Friendly: As these individuals are extroverts, they do not have difficulties connecting with people and maintaining friendships. They enjoy being around large groups and would prefer to be with others rather than alone.

Weaknesses

Having faults is a part of being human. So, let’s take a look at some of the weaknesses of this personality type:

Procrastination: As the ENTP enjoys engaging in the world around them to acquire new information, sometimes they can steer off the course of their responsibilities. While their natural curiosity aids them in many respects, it can also hinder their performance when they have too many tasks to complete at once.

Argumentative: Although these individuals enjoy debating their thoughts and ideas with others, they tend to push too far. This can cause others to feel hurt and insignificant at times.

Impractical: The ENTP tend to get caught up in too many thoughts and ideas, making them lose track of what is essential. This chaotic energy often makes them prone to being unable to stay true to their commitments.

Healthy vs. Unhealthy ENTP

Moreover, while many ENTP’s live healthy, balanced lifestyles, others have difficulties navigating the world around them. Let’s take a look at the difference between a healthy ENTP vs. an unhealthy ENTP looks like:

Healthy

  • Intelligent and creative
  • Enjoy bringing joy to others
  • Do not feel like they need to prove their uniqueness to other people
  • Are able to see the value in other people and their perspectives
  • They can regulate their emotions and express them in a healthy manner

Unhealthy

ENTP-A vs. ENTP-T

Furthermore, let’s compare what the ENTP-A vs. the ENTP-T is. The ENTP-A is also known as the Assertive Debater, while the ENTP-T is the Turbulent Debater. Moreover, the Assertive personality type does not seek approval from others, while the turbulent individual requires attention and approval. Furthermore, the Assertive Debater uses stress as a way to motivate them. Contrastingly the Turbulent Debater cannot regulate stress.

ENTP’s. in Relationships

Moreover, when it comes to relationships, they are proactive and caring towards their partner. They can communicate with honesty and are willing to keep an open mind. The ENTP enjoys standing up for their partner and is an advocate when challenged by other people. Furthermore, they address problems within their relationship with a rational attitude, yet they can become aggressive at the time. Additionally, the ENTP may also have difficulties understanding their partner’s emotions and being emotionally vulnerable around them.

Our Clients Love the Professional Leadership Institute

Your team will, too! Check out some reviews from our students.
The PLI program was invaluable to our network.
The range of topics delivered, the open dialogue, experience, and examples that PLI brought to each session were outstanding and provided a path for our Franchisees and Managers to look at leadership, coaching, and connecting with their teams in a new light. Many have implemented these strategies in their bakeries and have seen immediate results.

Highly recommend to help your team move forward
We have locations around BC and Alberta, so getting people on the same page can be very difficult... Until now. Our entire management team and location managers take the same great courses and then meet monthly online with our coach to apply it to our situation. People are engaged, the courses are excellent, we love our coach, and we are all learning together!

Our culture has taken major steps forward this year
Our culture has taken major steps forward this year with Trevor’s help.  He is funny, relatable, and his tools are very very practical and have helped us focus and upgrade our teams throughout our retail network. Trevor recently spoke to an employee group, and one person remarked, “I could listen to Trevor all day.”   We would highly recommend Trevor.
