ENFJ: The Advocate | Personality Description

ENFJ the advocate

Although several personality tests are available online, one of the most popular and commonly used resources is the Myer’s Briggs test. If you have been following along in our personality test series, you would know that the Myer’s Briggs test comprises 16 groups. Each group represents a specific personality. Today, we’re looking into the ENFJ personality type, also known as the Advocate.

Overview of the ENFJ Personality Type

The Myer’s Briggs test identifies each personality type with an acronym. For the advocate, ENFJ stands for extroversion, i(N)tuition, feeling, and judging. People with this type of personality are known as being warm, empathetic, and genuine towards others. They tend to be high in energy and would prefer spending time around others instead of spending time alone. Furthermore, the ENFJ personality strives to do what is best for humanity because they see the potential in others. As a result, their ambition tends to lead them to take on several projects at a time. Regardless, they understand that maintaining a positive attitude can yield innovation to better those in need.

 Strengths

Like all individuals, regardless of their personality type, the ENFJ has many strengths. Let’s take a look at some of these strengths down below.

Leadership: The ENFJ personality type is born leaders. Because they wish to uplift those around them, they often assume roles to teach and mentor those who are less fortunate. Many assume key decision-making roles in government as well.

Peacemaking: These individuals strive to promote peace and harmony with those around them. They tend to hold positive relationships with others in their personal and work-life. Additionally, they also ensure cohesion and cooperation in the environments they choose to be in.

Empathetic: ENFJ’s have no trouble understanding the perspectives of others. As a result, they often find themselves helping others in their time of need because they find it fulfilling and meaningful.

Productive: The ENFJ personality enjoys being productive. Therefore, they are always open to new opportunities and projects. This leaves them feeling happy and satisfied, especially when contributing to their community.

Weaknesses

We are all human, which means we naturally have weaknesses as well. Let’s take a look at some of the shortcomings in ENFJs in more detail.

Sensitive: People with this personality type are often susceptible to the feelings of others. Regardless of if they are directly affected by adverse events, their natural compassion towards people in need makes them feel deep sadness and hurt.

Indecisive: When it comes to difficult situations, this personality type finds it challenging to decide the best course of action. However, they do not have any difficulties asking for advice from the people they trust most.

Self-Neglectful: As the ENFJ lives to aid others, they often ignore their own wants and needs. This can cause burnouts and other health issues that can lead to consequences.

Healthy ENFJ vs. Unhealthy ENFJ

Furthermore, while some individuals with the ENFJ personality live balanced lifestyles, others have difficulty.  Let’s take a look at the difference between and healthy and unhealthy lifestyles of this personality type.

Healthy

  • Accept themselves for who they are
  • They do not feel the need to seek validation from other people
  • They can balance their responsibilities and personal life
  • Can accept constructive criticism
  • No trouble removing themselves from stressful situations to rebalance themselves

Unhealthy

ENFJ-A vs. ENFJ– T

Furthermore, let’s compare what the ENFJ-A vs. the ENFJ-T is. The ENFJ-A is also known as the Assertive Advocate, while the ENFJ-T is the Turbulent Advocate. Accordingly, the assertive type is more willing to take on leadership roles in their work and personal life as they are more naturally confident than the turbulent advocate. These individuals are more comfortable being who they are and can regulate their emotions when stressed healthily. Additionally, they do not have problems accepting criticism from other people. However, they do have a more challenging time connecting with other people on an empathetic level.

On the other hand, the turbulent personality is more insecure with who they are. As a result, they lead more humbly than the assertive type. Nonetheless, while they can handle stressful situations sometimes, they are also easily overwhelmed. Furthermore, these individuals find it easier to empathize with other people and connect with themselves emotionally.

 ENFJ‘s in Relationships

Moreover, when in a relationship, the ENFJ is someone who can actively listen to their partner. They use their natural ability to be empathetic as a tool to ensure their partner is always comfortable. Furthermore, the ENFJ is always willing to stand up for their partner when it is necessary. However, because they often take on too much work, balancing their personal and work life is sometimes challenging. They can also have trouble attending to their own needs over their partner’s as well. Nonetheless, the ENFJ is a great partner to have.

Our Clients Love the Professional Leadership Institute

Your team will, too! Check out some reviews from our students.
The PLI program was invaluable to our network.
The range of topics delivered, the open dialogue, experience, and examples that PLI brought to each session were outstanding and provided a path for our Franchisees and Managers to look at leadership, coaching, and connecting with their teams in a new light. Many have implemented these strategies in their bakeries and have seen immediate results.

Highly recommend to help your team move forward
We have locations around BC and Alberta, so getting people on the same page can be very difficult... Until now. Our entire management team and location managers take the same great courses and then meet monthly online with our coach to apply it to our situation. People are engaged, the courses are excellent, we love our coach, and we are all learning together!

Our culture has taken major steps forward this year with Trevor’s help.  He is funny, relatable, and his tools are very very practical and have helped us focus and upgrade our teams throughout our retail network.
